Four 16-year-old New Canaan boys were issued infractions for possession of alcohol by a minor March 8, police said.

Police received a report at 9:30 p.m. that a group of intoxicated youths were breaking bottles on the roadway, according to the report. The caller told police she saw the teens in a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler driving north on Dabney Road near Carter Street, police said.

An officer spotted a vehicle on Beech Road matching the description and he stopped the car, according to the report. When he approached the vehicle, the officer saw four teenagers, including the driver, and a case of beer, police said.

The driver, who only had a license for a short time, was also charged with violation of a passenger restriction, according to police. Under state law, newly licensed drivers are prohibited from carrying passengers during their first six months behind the wheel, police said.

The teens were released to their parents at the scene on a promise to appear in juvenile court, according to the report.
