A 17-year-old girl was arrested March 4 on a charge of risk of injury to a minor/impairing the morals of a minor weeks after the parents of a 13-year-old boy found explicit texts and photos from her on their son's cell phone, New Canaan police said.

Police started an investigation on Jan. 21, the day the boy's parents contacted them, according to the report. During the investigation, police obtained a search warrant for the girl's cellphone, which they said proved that she sexted the 13-year-old.

Police then applied for an arrest warrant for the girl and she turned herself in on March 4, according to the report. She's scheduled to appear in juvenile court in Stamford March 11.

Though both the girl and the boy are minors, she's facing the felony charge because "she's much older" than he is, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.
