A 17-year-old East Avenue resident had her identity stolen after receiving a fraudulent text message, according to New Canaan police.
The teen's mother called police July 15 to report that her daughter received a message about an issue with her Union Savings Bank account, police said. The teen clicked on the link provided in the text message and filled out a form with her account and Social Security numbers, date of birth and other personal information, according to the report.
After speaking with her family about the message, her mother learned it was a fraud, canceled the girl's bank account and alerted police, according to the report.
The case is under investigation.
