Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County is sponsoring an eight-week support group for caregivers this summer.

Beginning July 8, the Caregivers' Support Group will meet every Tuesday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. through Aug. 12 at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County office, Suite 114, at the Health and Wellness Center at I-Park, 761 Main Ave., Norwalk.

"Any person caring for a family member or loved one at home with a chronic illness or debilitating condition soon realizes that they have lost their independence and freedom," said Rachel Yurdin, a grief and bereavement counselor with Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. "The stress and exhaustion can be overwhelming for caregivers, who are frequently elderly. Caregivers need to take a break. They need to talk with others in similar circumstances, where they will find understanding that isn't available anywhere else."
