As part of Earth Day week in New Canaan, town government is teaming with TD Bank and the Chamber of Commerce to tidy up parks, streets, and other areas as part of the long running Clean Your Mile campaign, Kathleen Holland, Director of Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission said.

Participants in the event, which has a track record of more than 40 years, include the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, and members of the Chamber of Commerce who plan to clean up the downtown area at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24.

Bags and gloves can be picked up at TD Bank and the Public Works office at the New Canaan Police Department, while additional large dumpsters will be available at the train station lot on Elm Street this Friday through Sunday to dispose of picked up garbage.

This year Inland Wetlands and Watercourses sought out the participation of 40 groups who have typically taken part.

"There is a lot of garbage strewn about due to the long winter, so all of the help we can get is greatly appreciated as we celebrate Earth Day," Holland said by email.
