Bankwell in New Canaan is hosting a free seminar for students and parents, "Current Trends in College Admissions," featuring college placement experts Brent Haney and Kevin Rusch, of Competitive Edge College Advisors.
The seminar will take place Wednesday, April 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the bank's 208 Elm St. branch.
The presentation will include topics such as how early decision and early action options affect students' chances of admittance to the college of their choice, an update on the new SAT, understanding the timing and key steps to securing financial aid, and an insight into the dynamics surrounding athletic recruiting and how student athletes can get best noticed by colleges.
Haney, a partner in the firm, said, "We are finding the college admissions process very different from even a year or two ago. Colleges are filling their freshman classes earlier than ever, so families need to understand and accelerate the college process to successfully gain admittance to their top choice."
As part of the evening's program, Competitive Edge College Advisors is offering a complimentary Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Career Report assessment to attendees. With these findings, the college placement experts can help a student identify career options consistent with interests, determine preferred learning environments and decide on a focus for the future.
