A NEMO "Roles and Responsibilities of Land Use Commissions" workshop will take place Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium on the first floor of the Town of New Canaan building, 77 Main Street, New Canaan.

The public is invited to the commissioner training. The training is presented by the University of Connecticut and Town Attorney Chris Jarboe and sponsored by Planning and Zoning of the Town of New Canaan.

The training will consist of two parts:

1) The Roles and Responsibilities of Land Use Commissions examines the duties, options and interactions of local land use commissions, including planning, zoning, appeals, conservation, inland wetlands and economic development. Emphasis is on the enabling legislation behind the commissions, as well as significant court cases that affect decision-making.

2) Town Attorney Chris Jarboe will discuss FOIA and Ex Partee communication.

NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials) is an educational program for local land use officials that addresses the relationship of land use to natural resource protection. Visit http://nemo.uconn.edu.
