Rockin' for the Outback, the winter fundraiser for the teen center, will take place Saturday, Feb. 1, and feature the Jazzholes.
The event will take place at the Willows Lakeside Lounge, 920 Oakridge Commons, South Salem, N.Y. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the silent auction and the show at 8.
For the fundraiser, the board of directors has chosen the rock 'n' roll theme combined with silent and live auctions. The event will open with the School of Rock House Band and the Miss Understoods, followed by the featured band, the Jazzholes.
Proceeds will be used to fund the center's operations and to purchase needed equipment and supplies that keep the Outback current. The Outback receives 10 percent of its funds from governmental sources and relies on private donations, grants and fundraisers to meet its annual operating costs.
The Jazzholes is a six-piece band that delivers a blend of '70s and '80s rock from Lou Reed to the Allman Brothers. Two band members, Paul McDaniel and John Nesbett, reside in New Canaan, and another member was raised in town.
The Miss Understoods, an all-female band from New Canaan, features Susanna Anderson, BJ Casey, Michelle Orr, Megan Stanley, Susan Seelert, Margot Thorsheim, Kate Baliotti and Mariola Galavis, who all are New Canaan mothers. The band was formed in 2011 with the help of the School of Rock at 42 Grove St. The band plays covers and favorite hits from the '80s and '90s. The seven band members have 19 children among them.
The New Canaan School of Rock's "house band" is comprised of musicians ages 10 to 18 from New Canaan and nearby towns. They are considered the "all stars" of the school, and have a set list of classic and modern rock favorites.
The board also is seeking corporate sponsors to help underwrite the costs of the event.
Tickets are $100 and include beverage and food, and will be available for purchase the first week of January. For information, contact Christine Simmons, Outback community director, at 203-594-3075 or firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.newcanaanoutback.org.
