Enjoy a night out on the town Aug. 22 when the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce hosts the third annual Taste of the Town Stroll from 6 to 9 p.m., rain or shine.
The event will include more than 25 different participating stores and restaurants. A "food-raiser" for the New Canaan Food Pantry, the Taste of the Town Stroll will collect donations for the pantry throughout the evening in exchange for a chance to win fabulous prizes. This year's grand prize is a full-year membership at Oxygen Fitness.
Festive activities and culinary delights will be available at each of the participating venues throughout downtown, promising to entertain local residents and guests who come to New Canaan to shop, dine and see old friends.
"We're planning a Taste of the Town Stroll event that will not only deliver needed supplies for the food pantry, but will provide engaging activities throughout our village, as merchants and restaurants work together to make this a really fun event," Tucker Murphy, executive director of the Chamber, said. "As long as you make a pantry contribution, it's all free for the public. Better yet, we have lots of prizes that we'll give away at the end of the stroll for all those who take part."
The pantry is in need of instant coffee, salad dressing, pasta sauce, canned chicken, peanut butter and jelly, dried fruits and nuts, crackers and cookies. Residents can stop by Walter Stewart's and purchase a pre-packaged bag for $15 and $25 which have a retail value of $25 and $40. Then bring your receipt to the stroll.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. at one of the following locations of your choice: the Chamber of Commerce in front of the New Canaan Playhouse; Oxygen Fitness at 70 Pine St; New Balance at 128 Main St.; or the Choose to be Happy Pop Up Store at 108 Main St. From there, residents will receive a map of participating venues. Prizes will be drawn at 9 p.m. in the Pop Up Park. Winners do not need to be present.
