New Canaan police received more than a dozen vehicle break-in reports of unlocked cars on the morning of Wednesday July 8 off of South Avenue, most of them involving unlocked cars, Lieutenant Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.

The reports came in between 6:50 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday July 8, with seven of the complaints on River Street, two on Brinckerhoff Avenue, and one each on Four Winds Lane, Mortimer Street, and New Norwalk Road, Ogrinc said.

Further details on the amount and type of property taken from cars if any was not yet available Wednesday afternoon, Ogrinc said.

A 2006 Range Rover LR3 was also stolen from a Ponus Ridge Road driveway, with the keys being left in the vehicle, Ogrinc said.

The spree underlines that residents should lock their vehicles at all times and the common sense of not leaving any valuables in your car, Ogrinc said.
