The New Canaan High School Booster Club, Youth Football, Soccer Association, Lacrosse and Field Hockey have launched the Ram Spirit Fund.

The fund marks the beginning of a capital campaign to complete and enhance the sports complex for all youth and high school athletes. A multi-phase project, the Ram Spirit Fund will seek to fund and execute its first phase, creating a turf field at the grass practice ones next to the Watertower Field by June 2014. All financing will be through private donations.

Originally imagined in 2006, a plan to increase field usage by adding turf was created because of the challenges of all kinds of weather conditions. The Watertower turf field was installed with a long-term vision for further enhancements. Since 2006, the youth sports programs have increased and almost 3,000 boys and girls are participating in New Canaan each year. More than 51 percent of New Canaan high school students are playing on a sports team and using the practice and game fields.

To complete that original vision, a group of town, high school and youth sports members began the necessary planning for the second turf field in the spring. The approvals by town agencies were secured over the summer.

The Ram Spirit Fund would move forward on the overall vision, a three-phase project includes:
