New Canaanite Thomas Scheuer, 82, is hospitalized with severe head, internal and leg injuries after a 49-year-old South Salem woman driving on Oenoke Ridge Road Friday morning struck him, knocked him off his bicycle, and fled the scene.

The woman was driving a 2006 Audi A4 convertible. The victim was wearing a helmet.

Officers and members of New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to a 911 call at about 10:30 a.m. Friday morning reporting a bicyclist down off the side of the road on Oenoke Ridge Road. Debris from the vehicle was left at the scene.

Police located the vehicle and operator at about 10 p.m. Friday night. The operator is cooperating with investigators, and the investigation is ongoing.
