Esther Perel, an author and lecturer who speaks widely on relationships and popular culture, will be the featured speaker at the second annual Saul Cohen-JFS Lecture, sponsored by Jewish Family Service of Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Gen Re Auditorium at UConn- Stamford.

Perel's topic will be "Inside the Jewish Family: Reconciling Commitments and Transgressions."

Perel has lectured around the globe about emotional and erotic intelligence, work-life balance, cross-cultural relations, conflict resolution and identity in modern marriage and family. Her best-selling and award-winning book, "Mating in Captivity: Reconciling the Erotic and the Domestic," has been translated into 24 languages.

Her models for leadership have won her many clients, including AT&T, Johnson and Johnson, The Wexner Foundation, The Bronfman Foundation and New York University Medical Center. She also serves on the faculties of The Family Studies Unit, Department of Psychiatry, New York University Medical Center and The International Trauma Studies Program.

"We are extremely pleased that Saul Cohen's name is attached to this important annual lecture series," JFS CEO Matt Greenberg said. "Saul has devoted most of his professional life to serving our local Jewish community. This lecture series, endowed by Mimi Cohen in honor of her husband, is a way for Saul, Mimi, and JFS to provide the lower Fairfield County Jewish community an opportunity to learn from major global leaders each year -- and improve our own local community in the process."

Cohen is a Stamford resident who has served on the boards of and/or volunteered at Jewish Family Service, United Jewish Federation, Congregation Agudath Sholom, Temple Beth El, Chabad, Jewish Historical Society, Shalom TV, BiCultural Day School, and Kulanu as well as the Yerwood Center, Boys and Girls Club and the Ferguson Library.

"We are extremely fortunate to be able to secure someone as knowledgeable and respected as Esther Perel," Greenberg said.

A reception will follow the lecture. Prior to the lecture from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Atrium of UConn-Stamford, light fare with drinks will be served. For information, call 203-921-4161, or visit www.ctjfs.org.
