William C. Engborg, 58, of 74 Forest St., New Canaan, was arrested June 21 on charges of second-degree breach of peace, third-degree criminal mischief and carrying a facsimile firearm.
Officers were dispatched to Forest Street at about 11 p.m. on a report of vandalism, loud music and yelling in the area of Engborg's house, according to the police.
When the officers arrived, they learned a window screen of one of the suspect's neighbors was damaged after it was shot with a pellet gun, police said. Officers then knocked on Engborg's door several times, but he would not answer, according to the report.
When officers went inside the house through a screen door to make sure no one was in need of medical assistance, they found Engborg holding what looked like a pistol, police said, but it turned out to be the pellet gun.
He posted $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 1.
