Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said police received a report Jan. 16 that Barer made an inappropriate comment to a group of about six to 10 students at Saxe Middle School. The incident is under investigation and charges have not been filed against Barer.
Appel would neither confirm or deny that the investigation played a role in Barer's termination.
"He's no longer with us," Appel said. "It just didn't work out."

Ogrinc said Barer was in the school Jan. 15 to speak about the Outback. At least one of the boys told his parents about the incident, and one of the parents called the principal the next day, Ogrinc said. Principal Greg Macedo then called police to report the incident, according to Ogrinc.
Though he would not comment on the specifics of the case, Barer said the incident "seems to be an extraordinary misunderstanding." He said he's hoping the investigation results in "a fair inquiry to what actually happened."
Appel said she wouldn't comment on the details because it is "a confidential issue." Barer declined to comment on the termination as well.
Barer was hired in November and was working part time at the Outback. He is also the founder and director of the life coaching organization Wingspan Academy, where he gives young men professional advice for their personal issues. Barer is a certified master, life and youth and family coach.
