New Canaan High School boys basketball coach Mike Evans hosted the charity fundraiser Free Throws for Full Court Peace Sunday, Jan. 26, at the school.

The event was for boys and girls in grades three to eight, and each participant threw 100 free throws. Friends and family sponsored the kids so they could raise money for the organization.

Full Court Peace is a nonprofit organization that uses basketball as a unifier in places such as Belfast, Northern Ireland; Havana, Cuba; and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Recently, Evans, the founder and executive director of the organization, started a program to unite divergent groups within Fairfield County on the basketball court. The Jan. 26 fundraiser was aimed at helping youth in Connecticut.
