Not just fundraisers: YWL donates time

The Young Women's League of New Canaan is known for putting on great events around town, such as The American Girl Fashion Show, Holiday Market and the Easter Egg Hunt. While the league does focus on raising funds for local charities (the organization raised and donated more than $80,000 last year), members also donate their time and skills.
On average, the group gives more than 2,500 hours of its time annually. Just recently, members provided dinner for guests of the Norwalk Emergency Shelter; some donated money to purchase the ingredients and others donned aprons to cook and serve.

NES serves the South Norwalk community in numerous ways: operating a shelter with 95 beds; providing necessities through a food pantry; and serving three meals per day, 365 days per year, with between 100 and 200 people at each meal. Because of the YWL members' hard work and charity, about 190 people received dinner provided by the YWL.
