Charles Eckert, 57, of 12 Devon Ave., Norwalk, was arrested Nov. 27 on charges of driving under the influence and driving unreasonably fast.
New Canaan police stopped Eckert for speeding just before 9 p.m. on Smith Ridge Road, near Strawberry Hill Road, according to the report. He was driving at 55 mph on a 40-mph zone, police said.
The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and noticed Eckert's eyes appeared glassy and his speech slightly slowed, according to police. Initially, Eckert denied drinking at all, but upon questioning he admitted to having one drink, police said. He was administered a sobriety test and a portable Breathalyzer test in the field, both of which he failed, police said.
He was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 10.
