This Saturday evening, the friends and family of Jeff Nezvesky, who died April 10 at age 44, host a celebration of his life and fund-raising event at the Botsford Firehouse, Main Street South, near the intersection of Route 25 and Botsford Hill Road. Dinner, drinks, music and a silent auction take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Auction items include four tickets, with seats just behind the dugout, to a Yankee's game, a truckload of mulch, a house awning, jewelry, gifts certificates and more. Like homemade donuts? Rain or shine, St. John's Episcopal Church, 5 Washington Ave., Sandy Hook Center, holds its first summer season fund-raising Doughnut Drive Thru Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu items include not only freshly made doughnuts, but fruited scones and beignets. The Sandy Hook Fire and Rescue Company sponsors its annual fund-raising Lobster Fest, a town tradition, June 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. and June 11, 4:30 to 9 p.m. The menu features lobster, steak, shrimp, steamers, raw clams, chowder and all the fixings. A full cash bar, ice cream, and a clam and shrimp bar will also be available. The dinner tab is $18 per person, in advance; $20 at the door. Children's tickets, at the door or in advance, are $5 and include a hot dog or hamburger in place of surf or turf. Advance tickets are available in the fire marshal's office, 31 Peck's Lane, off of Route 25 in the Kendro/Tier One facilities and in the town clerk's office in Edmond Town Hall. Don Andrews, a nationally known artist from Alabama, paints a figure in watercolor during the June 8 meeting of SCAN, the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.
The demonstration, at 7:30 p.m., takes place at the Newtown Meeting House (lower level) on Main Street at the flagpole.
The program is free and open to the public.
