Every summer Westport Country Playhouse welcomes nine interns who will become the next generation of theater professionals.

They are part of The Woodward Internship Program, named in honor of Joanne Woodward, former playhouse artistic director.

A salute to the 2014 interns was hosted by New Canaan residents Carol and Peter Seldin at their home Aug. 4. Carol Seldin is a longstanding member of Westport Country Playhouse's board of trustees.

"Fantastic group of interns," she said. "Love them all. So interesting and open, kind and considerate, fun-loving and energetic, talented and dedicated, serious and engaged in their work at the playhouse."

In addition to her ties with Westport Country Playhouse, Seldin also offers her support to the Summer Theatre of New Canaan and Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Mass.

A certified master gardener, Seldin is president of New Canaan Beautification League. Her gardens have been on view for the New Canaan Nature Center's Secret Garden Tour and Garden Conservancy Open Days, and featured in numerous publications including the June issue of Garden Design magazine.

Seldin served on the executive boards of many school-parent organizations in New Canaan, including St. Luke's School, where her husband serves as trustee. She is a former middle and high school English teacher, as well as a director of high school plays and musicals and coach of award-winning speech and debate teams.

Members of program are Olyvia Brown, company management intern, from Harper Woods, Mich., who has a Bachelor Arts in English and theater from Alma College; Colleen Doyle, general production, props intern, from Round Rock, Texas, Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater design and technology from Sam Houston State University; Erin Focone. marketing intern, from Monroe, BA in English and public communication from University of Vermont; Wade Jennings, development intern, from Palm Beach, Fla., a rising senior in theater arts and entrepreneurship at Florida State University; and Veronica Lee, stage management intern, from Pittsburgh, Pa., BA in theatrical design and production from Elon University.

Also, Jinae Linek, scenic painting intern, from Oakley, Calif., BFA in technical theater from University of South Alabama; Allyson Mojica, general production, wardrobe intern, from Wilmington, N.C., a rising senior in theater arts design and production at East Carolina University; JT Murtagh, stage management intern, from Philadelphia, Pa., BA in theater production/stage management from Temple University; and Tajh Oates, general production, carpentry intern, from Fairbanks, Ark., a rising junior in theater and multimedia at Georgia Southern University.

While on the playhouse campus, interns work directly with senior staff and gain on-the-job experience in a professional, not-for-profit theater, which this year marks its 84th season.
