New Canaan woman scammed out $2K

An elderly Kimberly Place resident reported a scam reported at 4:59 p.m. on March 4. The victim said she received a phone call from someone claiming to be her grandson. She was told by this person that he was arrested in Canada and needed money for bail. The elderly woman, thinking her grandson may have been on spring break, wired $2,107 via Western Union to Oshawa, Ontario. It was not until after that the woman realized her grandson had never been in Canada police said. The matter is still under investigation.
