A 39-year-old of Sunset Hill Road resident reported a larceny Aug. 17 at 11:39 a.m.

The complainant told police that two of her diamond rings appeared to have been switched with stones of cubic zirconium. She noticed towards the end of July that one diamond ring had a loose setting while another diamond had fallen off the setting entirely. Police said she went to a jeweler to get a price on fixing it and was notified that the stones were not diamonds.

She believes the switch may have been done out West before she moved to New Canaan recently. She showed police documentation from an appraisal in July of 2007 proving each of the rings once had diamonds in them. Police said one ring was valued at $11,050 while the other was valued at $10,800.
