Samantha Bilko, of New Canaan, recently was honored by the Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, which hosted its annual awards banquet giving $585,100 to veterinary students and faculty.

Bilko received the Janet Rutledge Smith Memorial Scholarship and a Butch and Luella Ruth Curtis Educational Fund award for her academic achievement. She is the daughter of Staci and James Bilko.

"OSU veterinary students graduate owing an average of approximately $117,000 in education loans," Chris Ross, associate dean of academic affairs, said. "We are extremely grateful to our donors who continue to support OSU's veterinary medicine program, allowing us to award these scholarships to help ease that financial burden."
