NEW HAVEN -- You would have thought they were shooting a Hollywood movie as the massive group of Darien High parents had iPhones, camcorders and lights flashing everywhere at the conclusion of the Class L girls swim championship Wednesday night at Southern Connecticut State University's Hutchinson Natatorium.
But one thing wasn't in question. The Darien High girl swimmers were the stars of the evening as the Blue Wave took home the Class L team title.
Darien won the Class L title with 942 points, well ahead of runnerup New Canaan (707 points). Wilton was third with 567 points. Pomperaug (261) was eighth.

"We had a great L swim trials last Saturday. And we finished the job tonight," said Darien head coach Marj Trifone. "I'm so proud of everybody."
It was Darien's depth that won the evening as New Canaan took first place in most of the events.
"We had a great meet. Darien has the depth. But our girls made a huge statement," said New Canaan head coach Jason Paige. "I can't ask for more than my team gave tonight. We talked about synergy. About a team doing something as one. Our team did that."
New Canaan set new Class L record in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.
But Darien was an unforgiving Blue Wave.
"Two years ago, we had the pieces to beat Darien. We've been going head-to-head for the last 10 years in the states," Paige said. "We're happy to compete. Marj (Trifone) does a phenomenal job. We are a really good hunter."
"New Canaan is such a good team," Trifone said. "They have so many stars."
Pacing the effort for Darien was senior Olivia Leunis, who won two events.
"Olivia saved it for the end of the season," Trifone said. "She should expect more at the State Open."
The State Open will be a battle Saturday at the Yale University pool. Class LL winner and defending champion Greenwich will be waiting.
"I'm interested to see the results (Overall Top 24 in each event from LL, L, M, S meets)," Trifone said. "Our depth can do the job. Our work in the relays will be the key."
In the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay, the New Canaan quartet of Maddie Rusch, Alix Aliepoulios, Meghan Egan and Jenna Egan set a new Class L record just short of the state mark, winning in 3:30.90 with Wilton (3:34.57) as the runnerup. However, the Warriors were DQed for making a late relay change.
In Event 11, the 100 breaststroke, Leunis became a double Class L champ, winning in a meet-record time of 1:04.63 ahead of runnerup Erin Dunstan (1:07.15) of New Canaan.
In the 100 backstroke, Darien senior Caroline Orem captured the gold in 58.58 ahead of Wilton's Kristen Moss. Darien again had four swimmers in the eight-person A final as the meet scores back to 24 places in the individual events. The Blue Wave had the champagne ready leading New Canaan, 787-594.
In the 200 freestyle relay, New Canaan's Jenna Egan, Aliapoulios, Libby O'Hare and Maddie Rusch eclipsed the field, winning in a meet-record time of 1:36.22, more than three seconds ahead of runnerup Darien.
In the 500 yard freestyle, Lyman Hall sophomore Brittany Driscoll (5:07.64) out-touched Pomperaug junior Courtney Regan (5:07.88) for the victory. Darien had four swimmers in the next six places to lead New Canaan, 631-524.
New Canaan's Egan became a double Class L champion as she captured the 100 free in 52.87. Despite Egan's 30 points, Darien's depth extended the Blue Wave team lead to 537-490.
In the 100 butterfly, Rusch made it an L meet to remember by winning by more than a body length in :55.68, for her second victory of the evening.
The FCIAC teams got a big boost from their outstanding performance in the Class L diving last week.
After five events, with the diving points added in, Darien led the team race with 375 points followed by New Canaan (349 points) and Wilton (210 points).
In 50 free, Rusch motored to victory in :25.83 seconds. In the 200 IM, Leunis won by multiple body lengths in 2:05.93. New Canaan's Egan powered through on the final two legs to win the 200 free in 1:53.87.
In the meet's opening event, the 200 medley relay, after a race-long battle Wilton outtouched Darien to win in 1:49.44.
