New Canaan students' achievements cited

Edward Bossidy and Michaeleen McKinley, New Canaan High School class of 2014 graduates, were named Strength In Numbers Scholarship Award winners from Reynolds & Rowella, LLP.

Bossidy will attend Franklin & Marshall College and McKinley will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall. Each received a $500 check.

Nicole Awad was named to the dean's list at the University of Hartford for the spring semester.

Lindsay Benko graduated from Hartwick College with a degree in nursing.

Ceriene T. Rustad graduated from Western New England University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Caileigh Murray, a freshman at New Canaan High School, was selected as the national associate editor of Patriot's Legacy magazine, the quarterly magazine of National Society of Children of the American Revolution. Murray also serves as the Connecticut state recording secretary and, locally, as first vice president of Captain Stephen Betts Society.

Devon Calhoun, Sarah Craig, Thomas Delano, Patrick Hagerty, Katherine Kuntzman, Robert Miller and Abigail Stone were named to the dean's list at Bucknell University for the spring semester.

Justin Beitler, Cristina Cortes, Sara Greene, Giuliana Savini, Katherine Stevenson and Emily Upson were named to the dean's list at Wake Forest University for the spring semester.

Alexander Pitt graduated from Ithaca College's School of Humanities and Sciences with a degree in theatrical production arts.

Daniel Czasonis, Emily Griffith and Caroline Tedesco were named to the dean's list at Roger Williams University for the spring semester.

Megan Archino, a sophomore environmental studies major, was named to dean's list in Ithaca College's School of Humanities and Sciences for the spring semester.

Alexander Greig, of New Caanan, was named a W.K. Kellogg Foundation Woodrow Wilson Michigan Teaching Fellow.

The foundation's teaching fellowship recruits outstanding recent college graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The 2014 fellows are the fourth class of new teacher candidates to be prepared through the program since the fellowship was launched in Michigan in 2010.

Each fellow will receive a $30,000 stipend while completing a master's-level teacher education program at a participating Michigan university. The institutions commit to provide fellows a full year of experience in local classrooms, as well as specific teaching approaches for the STEM fields.

Greig, who will attend the University of Michigan, graduated from Augsburg College with a degree in mathematics.

He has been an assistant teacher/mathematics tutor on the middle school level; a private math tutor, elementary level; a volunteer for a middle school youth group; and college residential facilities coordinator and community adviser. Fluent in Spanish, he participated in mission trips to Chicago, Puerto Rico, Louisiana and California.

Katie Melland, a member of the class of 2017 at Skidmore College, earned honors for the spring semester.

Gregory Wagner was named to the dean's list at the University of Scranton for the spring semester. Wagner, a undeclared major, is a freshman in Scranton's College of Arts and Sciences.

William Karl, a senior finance major, was named to dean's list at Bryant University for the spring semester.

Katie Melland, a member of the class of 2017 at Skidmore College, earned honors for the spring semester.
