Alexandra Cohen, a senior at New Canaan High School, recently was presented the 2012 DAR Good Citizen Award by Diane Wells, regent of the Hannah Benedict Carter Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution in New Canaan.

The award is given annually to a high school senior selected by the school as exemplifying the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Cohen is active in school and community. She is co-captain of the Debate Club, as well as being a member of the Model U.N. Club; the NCHS Buddies, which partners special-needs students with their peers; and Girl Scouts.

The DAR Good Citizens program is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to seniors enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their state boards of education. United States citizenship is not required.
