The New Canaan boys black basketball team opened its season Sunday against Norwalk and fell 40-34.
Norwalk applied full court pressure right off the bat, and that allowed it to take an early lead. New Canaan came alive in the second quarter once it got accustomed to Norwalk's level of play.
New Canaan made a lot of baskets and outscored Norwalk 11-4 in the last eight minutes of the half. Luke Rwambuya and Matthew Brand were leading scorers, with Rwambuya sinking a couple 3-pointers.
New Canaan applied pressure in the fourth quarter, closing a 20-point deficit to six. Other top scorers were Jack Vaske and Will Sheldon.
