The brand new white BMW sedan parked on the grass on the corner of Cherry Street and South Avenue represents St. Aloysius Elementary School's largest fundraiser.
"We sell about 1,000 tickets at $100 each for a total of $100,000, so we're looking to net about $60,000," said Sue Oates, the director of events and raffle chairman for the St. Aloysius Elementary Home and School Association.
The roughly $40,000 vehicle comes from BMW of Ridgefield, for which the school pays full price. The car dealer does donate the second- place prize, a $1,200 BMW bicycle, and the website ScoreBig.com donated the third-place prize, a $300 gift card for sports and theater tickets, Oates said.
Oates estimated that about one third of the raffle tickets are bought by parents of children enrolled in the school, one third by parishioners and the remaining one third by the rest of the New Canaan community.
Raffle tickets are available at the school office, parish office or outside Mackenzie's on the weekends. The drawing is June 15.
