New Canaan retailer leads event for food bank

The Run Walk for Health & Hunger, presented by the Athletic Shoe Factory of New Canaan and Fairfield, will take place Saturday, Sept. 20, at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, 1 Blachley Road, Stamford.
The event will benefit the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.
The 5k run will take place at 8:15 a.m. and the 1-mile walk at 8:30 a.m.
The run travels through Stamford and Cove Beach. The walk includes a 1-mile dog one for families and children. During the dog walk, canines must be kept on leashes and have up-to-date vaccines.
After the run and walk, participants are welcome to attend the third annual Stamford Hospital Health Wellness & Sports Expo 2014 at Chelsea Piers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No dogs are allowed inside Chelsea Piers but a free day care will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 is Pet Wellness Day at the expo and there will be special exhibits related to pets. Stamford Hospital will offer complimentary health screenings for adults as well as activities for children. More than 80 exhibitors are participating.
The entry fee for the run/walk is $40 per adult plus three nonperishable food items, $20 per child for those 14 and under plus one nonperishable food item and $80 for a family of two adults and up to three children plus four food items.
The food and $5 from each entry fee will be donated to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.
The first 500 registered participants will receive a dri-fit shirt, race bib and goody bag. Prizes will be given to winners. To register, visit www.hws-expos.com and click on active.com.
