To help parents and teens navigate the journey of pursuing a graduated driver's license, AAA Southern New England and the New Canaan Police Department are offering free monthly community workshops at the police station, 174 South Ave.

This month, the workshop, conducted by two New Canaan police officers, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

"Dare to Prepare," a 90-minute workshop aimed at 15- and 16-year-olds and their parents, covers Connecticut's graduated driver's license requirements, and what teens and parents must do to obtain a driver's permit and later a driver's license. It reviews distracted-driving laws, focuses on the dangers of cellphone use, texting and drinking while driving and provides interactive exercises to drive home certain safety points.

Future workshops will be conducted on the second Saturday of the month.

AAA Southern New England is a not-for-profit auto club with 46 offices in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, providing more than 2.8 million members with travel, insurance, finance and auto-related services.
