New Canaan police charge man with drug possession

Nigel Smith, 29, of Seymour was arrested on marijuana-related charges at 10:20 a.m. on Dec. 31.
According to the report, an officer pulled over Smith on Main Street for not having a brake light on his vehicle. Upon a license and background check, the officer learned that Smith was driving with a suspended license and had various failure to appear and narcotics charges on his record.
Police searched him and said they found .25 ounces of marijuana in his boots. He was charged with having defective brake lights, operating under suspension and possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana.
Police did not have Smith's court date readily available.
