NEW CANAAN — Police charged a 55-year-old Fairfield woman with drunk driving after she stopped her car in the middle of the entrance ramp onto the Merritt Parkway.
On Feb. 1 around 9:45 p.m., a patrol officer saw Maria McDermott, of Chapel Hill Drive, driving her car erratically while going northbound on Old Stamford Road. McDermott then turned the car onto the entrance ramp for the Merritt Parkway and came to a complete stop in the middle of the ramp, blocking the road.
The officer spoke with McDermott who seemed confused. The officer conducted a motor vehicle search and a field sobriety test, which McDermott failed. She was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence and failure to keep right on a curve.
McDermott was processed and posted a $250 bond. She was released with a court date of Feb. 15. Her blood alcohol content was not available.
