Police released the name of a New Canaan man killed in a Ponus Ridge Road car accident on Friday night.

Stephen Meszkat, 28, of Dans Highway, was killed after his 2011 Audi S4 struck a stone wall at about 10:40 p.m., Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said in a press release.

Meszkat was traveling south on Ponus Ridge Road, south of Rippowam Road, when his vehicle went off the road striking the stone wall.

The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane facing west. Meszkat was the only person in the car at the time of the crash, Ogrinc said.

When police arrived on the scene they found a car with the driver trapped inside. New Canaan Fire and Ambulance teams were called in to help remove the driver from the car.

The driver was removed from the vehicle, and rushed to Norwalk Hospital but later died from his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the New Canaan and Wilton Accident Reconstruction Team, Ogrinc said.

Meszkat, who attended New Canaan High School and the Salisbury School, graduated from Fairfield University in 2006.
