Andrew Campbell, 24, of Pine Street, was charged last Friday with driving while intoxicated and making an improper turn in Darien.

Campbell was pulled over on Corbin Drive in Darien just before 1:30 a.m. after making a wide right turn onto the street and driving in the wrong lane for several seconds, according to the Darien police report.

Police reported the odor of alcohol could be detected in the 2006 Jeep Wrangler, police said, but the passenger in the car said he had drank heavily that night and the smell must have been coming from him, police said.

Campbell told police he hadn't had anything to drink but subsequently failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Campbell's passenger later told police that Campbell had consumed wine earlier in the night.

Campbell took a Breathalyzer test, which registered levels of 0.245 and a 0.244, police said. The legal limit is 0.08.

He posted a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear Nov. 3 in court.
