NEW CANAAN — Police arrested a New Canaan man for allegedly driving drunk after he got into a car accident and drove from the scene while officers were there investigating.
On Oct. 5, police responded to a report of an accident near Park and Cherry streets. Upon arriving, officers said they smelled alcohol on Alex Hartley, of Snowberry Lane, one of the drivers involved in the crash.
While officers were on scene, Hartley, 23, drove away from the accident. Officers pursued him and he was taken into custody in Mead Park. He failed a field sobriety test.
Hartley was charged with driving under the influence and, because of his actions while being processed for the DUI, he was charged with interfering with an officer and second-degree threatening. He was charged with improper passing, failure to come to a complete stop and evading responsibility.
