NEW CANAAN — Police arrested a 39-year-old New Canaan man after he allegedly swerved to miss a deer, struck a pole and failed to report the accident.
On March 5 around 8:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Valley and Colonial roads on a report of a car that crashed and landed in an embankment. Police determined the car also hit a utility pole while going down Valley Road.
After an investigation, police determined the driver of the car, Jeffrey Fittipaldi, evaded responsibility by failing to report the crash. Police located Fittipaldi at his Colonial Road home. He told police he swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of his car.
Fittipaldi was taken into custody on charges of evading responsibility and failure to drive right. Fittipaldi posted a $500 bond and will appear in court on March 15.
