NEW CANAAN — Police arrested a 52-year-old New Canaan man after he was caught allegedly driving drunk in the middle of the afternoon near downtown New Canaan.
On April 16 around 4:30 p.m., police responded to the area of South Avenue and Cherry Street on a report of a gray Jeep being driven erratically. Officers pulled over the vehicle and spoke with the operator, Thor Ian Valdmanis of Logan Road. Valdmanis showed signs of being drunk, so officers had him perform a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence and driving without a license.
Valdmanis was transported to police headquarters for processing where a blood alcohol content test showed his BAC was .27. Valdmanis posted a $250 bond and will appear in court on April 28.
