The New Canaan girls track team competed at Staples High School on Saturday against Staples, Bassick, Fairfield Ludlowe, Norwalk and Westhill.

Portia Schultz came in third place in the 1,000-meter run by clocking in at 3:38.60. In the 600-meter run, Katie McKeever and Alexandra Naughton came in third and fourth place with times of 1:56.30 and 1:57.70, respectively. New Canaan dominated the 1,600-meter run by claiming four of the top five finishes: Stephanie Benko won the race by a very comfortable margin by clocking in at 5:55.20, Emily Wood claimed second place at 6:13.30, Elizabeth Gordon came in third place at 6:15.80, and Yoonkeong Chi came in fifth at 6:30.20. Melanie Escalante won the 300-meter with a time of 45.10 seconds and Maureen Schott took third at 46.30. In the 3,200-meter, Schultz came in fourth at 13:22.00 and Kally Saiz took fifth at 13:27.50.

In the high jump, New Canaan claimed three of the top six spots as Alexis Najarian, Jaclyn McCurdy, and Ilene Anders placed second, third, and sixth, respectively. Becky Thompson won the pole vault, and Anna Von Oehsen came in fourth place. In the long jump, Schott took second place and Cristina Konstantinovic came in fifth. In shot put, Sydney Czech, Rebecca Evensen, and Molly Joyce took third, fourth, and sixth place, respectively.

Escalante claimed fourth place in the 50-meter run with a time of 7.10 seconds, and Eileen Dinnie and Schott tied for sixth place with a time of 7.30 seconds. In the 50-meter hurdles, Konstantinovic took fourth place at 9.70 seconds and Dinnie came in sixth place with a time of 10.00 seconds.
