New Canaan's fifth grade girls basketball team went 1-2 over the weekend.

The first game was a 28-11 home victory over Southbury. Sara Crawford (eight points) and Jane Charlton (10 points) led New Canaan's scoring. Michelle LaBadie, Natalie Lopez and Elizabeth DeMarino played strong defense. In the 2nd half, Crawford, Charlton, Ellie Andersen and Lauren Gilbert all made baskets. Kearney McKiernan and Sophie Curcio played strong defense to hold Southbury at bay.

An hour later, New Canaan was defeated 31-16 against an undefeated Shelton team. New Canaan, which was tired from the previous game, did its best to keep up with Shelton. Jane Charlton led the scoring for the girls with 10 points. Ellie Andersen, Kearney McKiernan and Lauren Gilbert all played tough defense.

On Sunday morning, New Canaan was dealt an 18-9 loss in Fairfield. Both New Canaan and Fairfield played tough defense. New Canaan's scorers were Jane Charlton (four points), Sara Crawford (three points), Katherine Lisecky (one point) and Ellie Andersen (one point). Natalie Lopez and Charlton were defensive standouts for New Canaan.
