Rain and thunderstorms -- possibly severe -- are forecast this afternoon and tonight for southwestern Connecticut as cooler air pushes the record two-day heat wave from the region.

The storms are most likely after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, as the daytime high temperature rises to the upper-80s. Some of the storms could trigger downpours and gusty, damaging winds, the NWS warns in issuing a "hazardous weather outlook" for this afternoon and tonight.

Tonight's skies should be mostly cloudy as temperatures dip to the upper-60s.

There remains a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow before 9 a.m. Skies later become mostly sunny, with a high temperature about 85 degrees. Tomorrow night is expected to be mostly clear, with a low temperature in the mid-60s.

Sunday will be sunny with a high daytime temperature about 80 degrees. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday night with a low temperature around 65 degrees.

On Monday, there is a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon, the weather service says. Skies will be cloudy and temperatures will rise to the mid-70s.
