Two stormy days are in store for southwestern Connecticut today and tomorrow, the National Weather Service warns.
Heavy rain, strong winds and possible thunderstorms are expected to buffet the region starting late this morning, tonight and into tomorrow afternoon, according to a "hazardous weather outlook" from the NWS.
The downpours -- with rainfall totalling at least 2 to 3 inches -- could trigger street and localized stream and river flooding, the NWS says.
A "flood watch" is in effect from 8 a.m. today through Saturday morning.
The rain is likely to start falling after 9 a.m. today, as the temperature rises to a daytime high in the mid-60s and an east wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of daytime precipitation is 100 percent, the NWS says.
Rain -- heavy at times -- continues tonight as the temperature falls to a low in the mid-50s. Winds will strengthen, gusting northeasterly 16 to 23 mph. Chance of nighttime precipitation remains 100 percent.
Tomorrow, more rain is forecast through afternoon, with a high temperature in the upper-60s and a north wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of daytime precipitation is 50 percent.
Tomorrow night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers before midnight. Skies will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, as the temperature dips to a low in the mid-50s.
On Saturday, skies will be sunny, with a high temperature in the mid-70s. Nighttime will be mostly clear, with a low temperature in the mid-50s.
Sunday also should be mostly sunny, with a high temperature in the mid-70s. There is a 30 percent chance of showers Sunday night, as the temperature registers a low of about 60 degrees.
On Monday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high temperature in the upper-70s. There remains a 30 percent chance of precipitation Monday night, as the temperature dips to the low-60s.
The outlook for Tuesday, according to the weather service, is partly sunny and temperatures in the 70s.
