The Christmas Eve forecast for southwestern Connecticut is no lump of coal: Skies promise to be sunny and clear, although the daytime high temperature will reach only into the low-40s.

There will be a slight north (where else?) wind between 8 and 13 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight will be mostly clear -- good sleigh-flying conditions -- with a low temperature around 26 degrees.

Tomorrow, Christmas Day, will be partly sunny, with a high near 46 degrees. Later, there is a slight chance of showers between 8 p.m. and midnight, the NWS says.

Christmas night will be mostly cloudy, with a low temperature around 32 degrees.

Monday promises to be sunny, with a high near 42 degrees.

The outlook for Tuesday, the weather service predicts, is a chance of snow before 9 a.m., a mix of precipitation between 9 a.m. and noon, then changing to all rain in the afternoon.
