New Canaan family walks for ALS

The Evans family of New Canaan recently participated in the annual fundraiser Walk to Defeat ALS held at Sherwood Island in Westport. Julie Butler Evans' parents, Holly and Roger Butler, both died of ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease, a rare and incurable disease; they were only a handful of married couples in the world to have contracted ALS. Two of Butler Evans' children -- Jess, a senior at New Canaan High School, and Jack, a freshman -- acted as team captains for Butler's Bulls and assembled a walk team of former and current New Canaan and Darien high school students. The event raised more than $175,000 for research via the national ALS Association, as well as patient care in Connecticut. To donate to ALS research, visit walkct.alsa.org.
