The New Canaan boys swim team narrowly dropped its season-opening meet by a 98-88 margin against Staples on Thurs, Dec. 20.
The New Canaan quartet of Brian Bodick, Ned Thunem, Stefan Pla and Thomas Dunstan won the 200 medley relay in 1:53.13.
Staples' Jonathan Blansfield won the 200 freestyle in 2:00.41, followed by New Canaan's Stephen Skaperdas and Jacob Geyfman in second and third in 2:01.92 and 2:05.48, respectively.
The 200 IM was won by Staples' Ian Rainey in 2:13.82, and New Canaan's top finisher was Thunem in 2:18.38.
Staples also claimed the 50 freestyle, as Nathaniel Boley clocked in at 24.89 for the win. New Canaan's Dunstan was the runner-up in 26.54.
New Canaan's divers took the top three spots, as Bobby Ross, Tom Kalinowski and Griffin Edmonds scored 264.90, 224.60 and 158.65, respectively.
Staples' Rainey won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.27, followed by New Canaan's Thunem in 1:02.75 and Pla in 1:03.43.
The Rams claimed the top two finishes in the 100 freestyle as Geyfman and Dunstan clocked in at 57.00 and 57.50 seconds.
New Canaan's Skaperdas won the 400 freestyle in 4:17.69.
New Canaan's quartet of Geyfman, Thunem, Pla and Skaperdas also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:43.97.
Staples' Boley won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.92, followed by New Canaan's Bodick in 1:05.22.
Pla won the 100 breaststroke for New Canaan with a time of 1:09.85, and New Canaan's Andrew Higgins came in third at 1:10.84.
The Staples team of Rainey, Daniel Williams, Jonathan Blansfield and Boley captured the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.98, followed by New Canaan's team of Geyfman, Dunstan, Bodick and Skaperdas in 3:53.47.
