New Canaan artists Suzanne Wright and Ceal Swift won first place and third place, respectively, in the acrylics category for "Expressions 2013," an exhibition at the Rowayton Arts Center of works by some of the region's artists.

New Canaan artists Elizabeth Nagle and Marianne Rothballer also had work juried into the exhibition.

The juror was Alex McFarlane, an award-winning painter, sculptor and industrial artist who is on the faculty at Silvermine Arts Center. He selected 73 works of art from 151 entries.

"I tried to make the exhibit as broad and inclusive as possible," he said. "In order to balance the show, the big categories -- oil and photography -- required a more refined selection. No medium or artistic category was ignored. I judged on quality and expression as I carefully reviewed all 151 works of art."

"Expressions 2013" continues through Feb. 23 at the Rowayton Arts Center, 145 Rowayton Ave., Rowayton. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. For information, visit www.rowaytonartscenter.org or call 203-866-2744.
