The New Canaan U13 Black girls soccer team fell 4-1 to Trumbull on Saturday.
With her team trailing 2-0, New Canaan's Chloe McAuliffe made a sustained run to the left of the box and passed across the goalkeeper's box to an awaiting Emma Smith, who firmly tapped it in, cutting Trumbull's lead to 2-1 at halftime.
New Canaan appeared to have the momentum going into the second half, but Trumbull came out very energetic to start the second half and added two more goals.
Despite the score, New Canaan actually played one of its better games, showing good passing and overall effort. It was an equal contribution from the New Canaan squad, with McAuliffe, Smith, Becca Walshin, and Annie and Allie Neugeboren putting in good offensive and midfield efforts.
Calli Brannan, Anne Johnson, Alana Tonghini and Haley Tobin worked hard in the midfield, while Abby and Nicole Weiss, Katie Kennelly and Danielle MacKimm were kept very busy on defense. Tobin and Allie Neugeboren shared goalkeeping duties.
