A shorthanded New Canaan U11 Girls Red team was able pick up a tightly-contested road win against a formidable Darien club by notching a 2-1 victory on Sunday at Royale Elementary School.
Solid passing and tight defense were a staple of the game for New Canaan, which got on the board at the end of the first half when Olivia Cosco scored after receiving a pass from Ryann Mushkin.
Goalies Joelle Anselmo and India Otero both played well, and Abby Carstensen, Claire Ross and KK Marcus worked the field with beautiful passes that kept possession away from Darien.
With no subs on the sidelines, New Canaan still managed to control possession for the majority of the game.
Kayla Beck scored a breakaway goal to break a 1-1 tie and give New Canaan the win.
