A New Canaan police officer was injured while attempting to subdue a 16-year-old male patient at Silver Hill Hospital April 29 at 8:19 a.m.

Police said the patient, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, assaulted a 30-year-old male staff member and became extremely combative when officers tried to restrain him. While he resisted, the patient caused serious injury to an officer's knee and wrist, police said. After he was subdued, he was transported to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.

As a juvenile, the 16-year-old was charged with third-degree assault, interfering with a police officer and assaulting a police officer. He will appear in Stamford Juvenile Court May 10.
