NEW CANAAN — A Pound Ridge teenager was arrested after police said they found him in the driver’s seat of a car he did not own with alprazolam — commonly known by the brand-name Xanax — and marijuana in his possession.

New Canaan Police received a complaint Aug. 21 about a missing vehicle, which they located in the Walgreen’s parking lot on Pine Street.

Inside it, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana. A subsequent search of the car revealed marijuana, rolling papers, a metal grinder, cigars, two boxes of Ziploc bags, a glass jar with 303 two-milligram Xanax pills and $1,420 cash, according to police.

Zachary Aaron Kaplan was charged with sale of a controlled substance, sale of a hallucinogen/narcotic, use and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. The 19-year-old was held on a $10,000 bond ahead of an Aug. 22 court date. His next court date is Sept. 9.

The owner of the vehicle did not press charges.
