A year since the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act -- or Obamacare, as it is commonly known -- many people are still not fully knowledgeable about important details.

Don Moyle, founder and manager of Insurance Navigation LLC, will try and clear up any confusion with the workshop "Navigating Affordable Care: What You Need to Know" on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 8:30 a.m. at the New Canaan Library.

The talk will be one of two health programs the library is hosting next week.

On Tuesday, Oct. 21, a Stamford Hospital doctor will deliver the final MED ED lecture series. Dr. William Hines will talk about his specialty, nephrology.

His presentation, "The Kidneys -- How they Function and How they Do Not," will focus on the normal functioning of the kidneys and the ways in which kidneys do not function normally. Approaches for maintaining optimal kidney function will be discussed, as will methods for treating kidneys when they do not function.

The MED ED series has been offered through a co-sponsorship with New Canaan YMCA and the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce. The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Time will be allowed for questions following the lecture. A certificate of completion will be given to attendees at the end of the lecture.

The Affordable Care Act presentation is co-sponsored by the Alliance of Business Professionals and the Chamber of Commerce.

Offering information pertinent to small businesses and individuals, Moyle will talk about the impact of the new act in Connecticut, available plans and costs, "on exchange" versus "off exchange," small groups and SHOP programs, among other topics.

Both programs are free, but registration is requested online at www.newcanaanlibrary.org.
